It's here! Part 3!! To God Be All The Glory!! Yesterday I was reminded about pressing on in writing by two of my dear friends and here you have all of Part 3! Which wouldn't have been written in time for today unless God had moved on those friends!!
Also a huge thanks to my sister Chloe for editing all these things (so mistakes are on her, lol😛), but yeah thanks Becky:D Please check out her blog and web at the links below to find out about her own writing soon to be published!
God Bless you all! Keep Seeking Jesus!!
Lexie laid on the tiny cot in the small cabin's kitchen. Darkness flooded through the room.
A single tear slid down her left cheek, and honestly she felt glad to be crying after a very emotional day.
Her ma laid still, warm in a grave. She didn't really know what the future held.
For the last ten years ma had been all she had; yeah, sure, she had Jack, but as far as that woman figure in her life-ma had been it all.
Lexie recalled how torn she had felt when she first came to live with ma. She was so frail and frightened but ma had somehow calmed her. She had loved her and cared for her.
And somehow loosing her precious sister wasn't so hard anymore.
Lexie closed her eyes and Lizzie's smile appeared in her mind. That was about all that she could remember about her sister. The years full of events had taken away most of her remembrance of what her sister looked like.
More tears came at the thought of her sister.
More memories flashed through her mind, memories of her being torn from her sisters arms.
She had been so scared when her birth parents had died, she had completely leaned on her sister. Then they were taken to that orphanage, and there Miss. Smith yelled and snapped at her all the time. Then on a clear, beautiful day, she had been jerked from her sisters arms and given to one of the most meanest and one of the most nicest people in the entire world.
Lexie often wondered what had happened to Lizzie. Had she ever been adopted? Was she kicked out of the orphanage when she turned 18? Was she as sad and lost as she was tonight?
Well, she could wonder all she wanted but that wouldn't get her any answers. But...maybe...just maybe... it was time for her to start searching for them.
With that thought she turned over onto her side and sobbed like a baby or maybe just like a hurt nineteen year old.
...The Next Day
Lizzie let off a yell as she flew off the horses back and landed on her behind.
She sat there a moment before shifting with a groan. She slowly stood, glaring at the wild, black beast who was prancing around with pride from his latest throw. The horse stopped prancing when he noticed she was standing. He snorted at her.
Lizzie glared harder and folded her arms. "You think you won, huh?" She made a nasty look. "Well, you haven't. As soon as I'm moving a little better I'll be right back out here after you." Lizzie sniffed matter-of-fact like.
She let out long groan as she slowly walked out of the corral. Yeah, I'll be back after that stubborn creature first thing in the morning.
"Momma." Lizzie called out as she walked into the kitchen, groaning once again.
"I'll be right there." Her momma called from her bedroom.
Lizzie poured her some coffee before sitting down.
Her momma appeared in the kitchen; she smiled when she saw Lizzie's countenance.
"Ruff ride?" Her momma asked as she came and sat across from her.
Lizzie rolled her eyes. "I tell you, outta all the horses that pa has brought from the mountains; and out of all the horses that I've broken, that one ouch'er is the toughest, meanest horse I have ever sat or laid eyes on." Lizzie finished with a huff and fold of the arms.
Momma broke into a laugh, throwing her head back.
Momma broke into a laugh, throwing her head back.
Lizzie glared and tensed her arms. "I don't see what's so funny."
Momma calmed her laughter . "Oh, honey, it's just you have been at that horse for the last week and the way ya'll to act it's like-" Her momma broke into laughter again before continuing. "It's like you and that horse have some deep battle going on."
Lizzie rolled her eyes upward. "Well, we do. But I'm gonna win." She winced when her mind was brought back to her aching joints.
Her momma chuckled as she stood, then wiped the laughter tears from her eyes. "Honey, I'm going into town. You wanna come?" Her momma spun back around and bit her lower lip before saying, "Or are you two sore to ride?"
Lizzie smiled sacrasictaly. "I think I'll be alright."
"I think I'll go and see pa at the office while you go and get your stuff in there." Lizzie said then pointed ahead at the General Mercantile.
Momma nodded. "Okay, hun. I'll be over in a minute." Momma smiled before stepping off the wagon that was parked in front of the general store.
Lizzie walked briskly, despite her aching joints, across into the wooden sidewalk. She walked past the seamstress shop, the doctor's office, telegraph office and a newspaper office. The sheriff's office was at the end of the line.
"Hey, pa." Lizzie said cheerfully as she opened the door.
Pa moved his hat from over his face, putting it back into his head and gave her a warm smile. "Hey, honey, what'cha doing here? I thought you'd be too sore to be riding into town."
Lizzie face turned to sarcasm as she walked to the front of his desk. "Veeerrry fuunny."
He chuckled and brought his feet, which he had propped up on his desk, back down the the floor. "Your momma here?"
"Yeah, she's in the store, said she'd be over when she's done."
Pa smiled and stood up, coming over to the other side of the desk to face her. "So how did the bronc busting go?"'
Lizzie slightly cocked her head. "Do you really have to ask that?"
"Guess not, honey." Pa smiled. "You'll get him, honey. Did I ever tell you about that stubborn bronco I dealt with when I was about your age?"
She shook her head.
"Meanest, orneriest critter you'd ever lay your'n eyes on. He sure didn't want to be broke, that's for sure, but after fighting with him for about two months, he let me sit on him." He nodded reassuringly.
Lizzie couldn't help but grin as she stared at her pa. His blue eyes reflected his brown hair nicely. He wore a gray button down shirt, tucked into his black pants. He wore a jacket that his badge was pinned to. Dirt covered his black boots and he wore a brown hat.
"Well, I'll keep that in mind."
"Good, now why don't we go help your momma get her groceries?"
Lizzie nodded and pa put his arm around her as they walked out onto the street.
"Anything happen today?"
Pa sighed deeply. "Not today, it's been a real quiet day. That's the way I've come to like it, honey."
Lizzie took in the town a moment. "I know I say this a lot but I know it must be a lot of work being a sheriff."
"Yeah, can be."
"I've always admired you being one, pa. You know that?" She looked up to see her pa's expression.
His eyes held a twinkle. "Means a lot, honey."
Lizzie smiled inwardly. "I sure couldn't do it."
Pa chuckled and slightly squeezed her shoulder. "Sure you could. You could do anything that God called you to and you set your mind to."
Lizzie wasn't sure why exactly but those words bore into her core.
